It is important to fry the pancakes at the right temperature; the target is approximately 350°F. Don’t heat the oil too much otherwise the donuts will burn before the dough is cooked. Also, the oil must not be too cold, otherwise the donuts will absorb too much oil and become greasy.

Use a neutral oil suitable for frying at higher temperatures. Canola oil, peanut oil, sunflower oil or corn oil will be suitable. If you want to reuse the oil, let it cool and filter it. You can use it a few more times to get more batches of pancakes.

To ensure that all the pancakes are the same size you can also use an ice cream scoop. After taking the dough, flatten the surface and then insert the dough into the dough. Spray the ice cream scoop occasionally with cooking spray.

Similar to how you make oliebollen, you can add chopped apples, raisins, or cranberries to the flour mixture.

Can I make pancakes with the Airfryer?

This recipe will not work in the Airfryer because the dough is too thin.

What to serve with pancakes

Serve them as we did: covered in honey and sprinkled with granulated sugar. You can omit the honey and simply sprinkle them with icing sugar.

You can also serve them with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce or custard.

How to store pancakes

Pancakes are best served fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container (at room temperature) for up to 3 days.

Can I freeze pancakes?

If you can! Let the pancakes cool completely and then transfer them to a resealable bag. Freeze for up to 2 months.
